FAQs

1. What instruments do you accept?

We accept any and all instruments (within reason). We are happy to have band instruments, electric and rock instruments, even uncommon instruments as long as they can play from sheet music or act as percussion. No matter what you play, we will do our best to find a part for you; because the larger our group is, the more we can pump up the crowd.

2. Do I have to know how to read music or play an instrument?

No. If you do not read music or play an instrument, but you can keep a beat and still want to join in the fun, we can give you a number of different auxiliary percussion parts, and you can make it up as you go along.

3. What is the time commitment?

The time commitment is very small. We meet once a week, on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm, after Concert Band rehearsal. We typically rehearse for about an hour, and then go down to the cellar for an optional group dinner or evening snack at the Cellar. Games are on Saturdays and typically last 2-3 hours, although they do occasionally run into overtime. We try to be very flexible if you have to leave a little early to get to work or another event, but it is preferable for everyone to stay until the end so that we can show our spirit until the very last minute of the game.

4. When should I arrive at games?

We meet altogether at 1604 N alder ONE HOUR before the listed start time so that we can move equipment, set up, and warm up before it is time to start playing. If you choose to warm up in a practice room before heading over to the stadium, please still arrive at least 15 minutes before the game time, so that we can be ready to play at kickoff.

5. Do you only play at sports events?

No. We are often hired to play at special events within the Tacoma community. In the past, we have played at the Bank to Bay 5k run, and this year we are performing at the Ideas NW Conference. We are also always willing to consider other gigs or fundraising options.

6. Do I have to wear a uniform?

We currently have a pep band t-shirt, which will at some point be our designated uniform (along with a nice pair of jeans and shoes). At this point in time we are in the ordering process for more shirts, and until then the uniform is just black or school colors!

7. What if I don’t have an instrument with me?

Communicate with an officer, and they will request a school instrument to be checked out in your name.
